EBA Coaching
Development & Education Program
Mission Statement:
The Ephrata Baseball Association is committed to cultivating adult
volunteer managers, coaches, and instructors through a coaching
development and education program designed to teach consistent,
effective instructional practices that are safe, fundamentally-based,
and skill-appropriate for the overall instructional well-being of its
participants.
EBA Coaching
Levels:
Level I
A certified Level I coach must complete all defined requirements as
approved by the EBA board in order to be recognized as being qualified
to manage participants at the EALL in-house levels of play (Rookie
League (T-Ball), A League (Coach-Pitch), and AA League).
Level II
A certified Level II coach must
complete all defined requirements as approved by the EBA board in order
to be recognized as being qualified to manage, coach, and/or instruct
participants at the EALL Major League level of play and all other 14U
travel league teams that are EBA administered.
Level III
A certified Level III coach
must complete all defined requirements as approved by the EBA board in
order to be recognized as being qualified to instruct, coach, and manage
participants at advanced levels of competitive play. A Level III
certification also qualifies an adult as an advanced instructor allowing
he/she access to the EBA training facility for appropriate instructional
and training services.
EBA’s objective
of developing qualified managers, coaches, and instructors will begin
with a commitment to providing all interested volunteers with the
following:
- Year-round
instructional and administrative support for learning and applying
fundamental baseball instruction drills and skills under supervision
from advanced instructors at the EBA training facility
- Board-approved
budgeting and spending for necessary references, resources, and
efforts that will improve the quality of instruction in our program
- Access to
coaching-related multimedia resources
- An EBA
Coaching Development & Education Manual
- Year-round
administrative support, under the leadership of a Coaching
Development & Education Director, for questions, concerns, and
feedback
Developmental
Requirements/Incentives:
Level I Certification Requirements:
- Attendance at
one three-hour weekend clinic at the EBA training facility that
covers coaching philosophy, throwing, fielding, and receiving the
ball

Acknowledgement waiver of annual evaluation process by parents
Level I
Certification Incentives:
- Access,
through your League Director, to 6-Volume Youth Baseball DVD Series
- Free personal
copy of “Baseball’s Forgotten Basics” Book and DVD Combo
- Access to
“continuing education” seminars provided throughout the preseason by
EBA (Little League-approved “Getting Started” and/or “Planning a
Practice” DVD; and Hitting, Pitching, and Safety Seminars will be
offered through your League Director)
- Open
invitation to attend “open” high school baseball practices
Level II
Certification Requirements:
all Level I
requirements plus . . .
- Attendance,
along with your child (if applicable), at one two-hour “Round Table”
pitching, fielding, base running, and hitting clinic
- Passing an
“open book” exam testing fundamental baseball instruction using the
“Baseball’s Forgotten Basics” book
- Through your
League Director, viewing of Little League-approved “Planning a
Practice” DVD
Level II
Certification Incentives:
all Level I incentives plus .

- Participation
in instruction during open clinics and evaluations for participants
ages 9-12
- Free personal
copy of Little League-approved “Advanced Baseball Instruction”
Manual
Level III
Certification Requirements:
all Level I & II
requirements plus . . .
- Six “credit”
hours of “shadowing” an advanced instructor at NPBA “advanced
baseball” training sessions (two hours of advanced hitting
instruction, two hours of advanced pitching instruction, and two
hours of advanced fielding instruction)
- Three “credit”
hours of active instruction in the areas of hitting, pitching, and
fielding under the supervision of an advanced instructor at NPBA
“advanced baseball” training sessions
- Viewing of
6-Volume Youth Baseball DVD Series
Level III Certification Benefits:
all Level I & II incentives
plus . . .
- $50 voucher to
attend the “Be the Best You Are” Coaching Clinic (held annually each
January in Cherry Hill, NJ)
upon completion of the Level I requirements
- “Advanced
Instructor” Label allowing for access and use of the facility for
approved team instructional purposes of participants of all ages
- “Shadow”
mentoring of high school coaching staff in the dugout at home high
school games
